Blanchard, T (2004) Vivienne Westwood in Fashion and Graphics. Read Traub, C (2006) The Artist in the Marketplace in The Education of a Photographer.

Vivienne Westwood has 'branded' her work, by always using the same logo.
she first used the orb when she set up on her own in 1981. What a great logo. it is recognised all over the world and copied in many, where her work is 'reproduced '.
The orb is signifying the mix of the past and the future, by using the iconic orb it represents royalty and history and the circle represents the future in a sci fi way.
She has used other logos for particular collections, but the orb, in my eyes, is Vivienne Westwood.
She has created, through using a graphics team, a graphic identity, that has changed little, that is about creativity rather than brand equity.
I am not especially into fashion and definitely don't have money to by Vivienne Westwood clothes, but she has always been someone I have been aware of, maybe because of her iconic logo or maybe because of her roots in the punk world, of which I have been a small part of.
Companies do have a tendency to re brand, as Vivenne Westwood nearly did a few years ago, but felt it was unnecessary, and why fix something that isn't broke!

Exhibition notes & press release from Controversies: A Legal and Ethical History of Photography, Musee de l'Elysee, 2008 and post your comments about it on your blog/website.
Really interesting, but didn't understand all of it. Reading isn't my strong point and I struggle to absorb it all.
I am interested in ethical issues in photography, I feel it is a very complicated issue and part of it is down to opinion of the viewer, but more so the context it is in; the country and its religious and ethical beliefs; the relevance of the subject; so many elements.
Peoples views on these issues change through time and showing these images from two centuries is very interesting, as it will show how much or maybe how little our views have changed, and how culturally we have looked at some of the issues.
I'm personally undecided on whether it is ethically correct to record someone dying, but I do feel it is wrong to show children in a sexual way, however much society is pushing children, through the media, to grow up quickly.
I am interested in child portraiture and know it has become a difficult subject, but believe there are ways this can be done, as long as you take in the consideration of the child not just the parents.
I would have loved to have seen the exhibition and will try and get a look at the book that accompanied the exhibition.
